WTOC:

Kyle what should people look for when they want to inspect their homes to see if they need any maintenance done?

KYLE – ALLEGIANCE ROOFING & EXTERIORS:

As a homeowner, I would wait until the next time it rains and then I would just basically walk around the home, look at all the ceilings and walls in the bathroom, bedroom closet, areas that you don’t commonly go and just inspect for water stains.

WTOC:

How often do you get customers that are dealing with that problem?

KYLE – ALLEGIANCE ROOFING & EXTERIORS:

All the time, in fact, most people don’t know that they have a roof issue until it’s already leaking.

Typically, we want to protect the home from a direct physical loss, a weather-related event, and vinyl is very common on most homes today and it’s pretty, it looks good, they come in several different colors, but the problem is it’s very vulnerable to wind uplift and penetration from hail.

A simple upgrade would be to do away with the vinyl and go back with a fiber cement board, commonly known as Hardy Board. This stuff doesn’t get penetrated from hail, its heavy duty, it doesn’t rot or weather like wood would.

WTOC:

So, when disaster strikes, people are already stressed out, what ways do you help them?

KYLE – ALLEGIANCE ROOFING & EXTERIORS:

It all starts with the roof inspection. When we go up on the roof we’ll look for storm related damage. Most insurance companies will cover direct physical loss to your home due to wind or hail so we’ll look for hail damage on the laminate, we’ll look for wind uplift, creases or blowing off shingles.

If you have significant wind or hail damage, we’ll help you contact your insurance company, we’ll meet with the insurance company to see if they’re going to pay for the damages. In the event that they don’t, we do offer  monthly payment plans so you can get your roof replaced today and pay for it later.

So, this would be what I would say a roof to wall transition with an upgraded shingle package and upgraded flashing. So, versus a regular pan flash this is what’s called a step style flash so every shingle gets an individual piece of flashing. The reason for that is the event that the water gets right here and decides to run sideways it’ll actually just run over top the next shingle below it and that’ll eliminate any water intrusion.

Kyle, so what sets you guys apart?

KYLE – ALLEGIANCE ROOFING & EXTERIORS:

Okay, so this is a standard generic builder grade three tab shingle, very popular shingle only rated for 60 MPH. Why don’t you go ahead and replicate wind and try to pull this off.

WTOC:

Okay, I broke that.

KYLE – ALLEGIANCE ROOFING & EXTERIORS:

Okay, alright, well let’s try one of my shingles, this is more of an upgraded type shingle rated for 130 mph and what sets this apart from the rest is the nail strip. The nail strip is a game-changer, it adds extra backing behind the nail to help with wind uplift. Why don’t you go ahead and try to pull this one off.
